I am my own centerfold..

A fold out spread in my new journal... I like that this much space challenges me for content.

I am also having a lot of fun writing in charcoal pencil...because when I try to write with a "clean" instrument, I feel like the writing doesn't fit my painting.

I wrote these pages during my sick week last week... Don't send the cavalry.. I am fine.

How about trying something out of your comfort zone today? A new recipe? A new palette? Go for it.

I love this! It's so cool and different. I love the colors, the tree and the way the pages open up to the whole scene. I have a long ways to go to get to this but it seems doable. Glad you're feeling better. Baby steps.... don't do too much too soon. Be kind to your body and let it recover. Been there and done that.

Uuuuhhhh, I really like this! Dark and moody and foresty.... really good. And I get what you say about "clean" instruments. Charcoal looks great, but isn't it smudginig?

Like dark chocolate....your pages are intoxicating, haunting, deep, rich. This is beautiful Julie.
p.s. I use hairspray to "fix" my journal pastels/charcoal entries. It totally works when I travel & smells a whole lot better too.

Great journal pages Julie. It's snowing here today and these pages fit the winter mood completely. Thanks for sharing. Fran

p.s. your blog won't allow me to post my URL..."invalid format" - but it's just my typepad address. Weird....just FYI

Such a moody one, love this. I'm trying out some new crafty stuff, getting inky today.

I absolutely love the dark smudging... I want to climb up on the tree and read your journal... It IS a tree isn't it? How's that for a visual?

This piece looks like the weather I had for my drive home yesterday - with just a little deep dark purple added in here and there. Love the charcola - I was encouraged by Judy Wise to use it for mark making on my pages but I think that smudgy-ness for writing is good for that moody effect.
Hope you are feeling better. You sure do nice work for a sick chuck, though !;)
Long distance hugs !

Hmmm guess I should proof-read a little - that should read charcoal, not charcola (makes me want a diet Coke) and sick chick, not sick chuck, unless your middle names is Charlotte or something, then it could be kind of a cool slip up...no? Okay, just a typo them...can you tell I am really really tired today ?

sorry...
;)

Love the pages. The charcoal writing is perfect with you style. I have been practicing with a dip pen and ink because I too love the grungy messy stuff but maybe you have found a far better solution to it. I also want to say I think I get where your head was with what you were journaling about. And I don't have sick as an excuse for the mental conundrums I create for myself (in my own head). Your work is amazing Julie!

Love this one A LOT ! Is that gesso?

Julie, just wanted to take this moment to personally thank you for the time and creativity you put into your online classes.

For quite some time I have a huge inventory of the $.88 craft paints and they worked fine for me. Then at some point I bought all of the Golden matte acrylic paints, but rarely used them. You online class encouraged me to pick up a few of the fluid Golden acrylic paints. OMG ~ the colors are so rich. The more transparent ones just take my breath away. So now, twice a month when I get the payroll deposit from the day job I rush right out and buy some more paint. Such a huge surge of inspiration.

I am sooooo looking forward to your class with Chris .................................................

Thanks again.
