Black to light...

acrylic and charcoal on paper (For a closer look at this page, find it in my "mixed media gallery" linked above.)

I usually start with partial black backgrounds. I used a totally black background for this page. I love how the black gives the layers a more mysterious look that starting with white.

Lots and lots of layers.

I'm finished with my 9x12" mega journal...more new art will be coming soon!

Painting on black backgrounds is this month's Green Pepper Press Street Team Crusade.. won't you be a Crusader too?

This page has so much depth and a bit of intrigue going on. I love the layers and the hint of bright pink along the side.

Full of depth as only you know how... it reminds me of a dark and violent, storm-tossed sea - and I love it!

There's a feeling of emergence in this one, Julie, of something not quite formed rising up through the layers. All capped by a zap of glowing pink, like neon through a fog. Terrific!

Julie ~ lots of depth and drama going on here. I really like the movement you've created. YAY !!!!!!!

I've been working my way through Layer Love......you've provided a much needed nudge for me. Last night I painted like never before.......don't know if I like it or not, but at least it finally feels authentic and exciting and for me "out of the box". Will post on LL this weekend. I hope you will critique.

Thanks again.

Hi Julie! Always love your pages... but especially like the way this all black background worked the other layers. Very very cool! :)

What a beautiful page! Also the way your words stand on the page. I love the layers.

This is so interesting. I wish I could feel the layers, if you know what I mean. It looks to me like the surface has ended up a bit lumpy? Fascinating! I really respond to the 'scratchy-ness' of it.
